The Nourish Summer Institute ran August 8th through the 12th in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The purpose of the Institute was to train our Chapter Leaders for the challenges they’ll face as they raise money, contact partners and implement projects on their campus in the coming year. An added benefit to the training was the opportunity to gather an awesome group of people with a similar mission and work on it together.
Students at the Institute heard expert speakers on the topics of Global Poverty, Social Entrepreneurship, Entrepreneurship and training sessions on how to select partners, projects and how to run ventures on campus.
Most of the Institute was centered around the “Chapter Start-up Challenge,” where attendees were split into groups to prepare mock plans for a chapter in the coming year. This activity gave Chapter Leaders the opportunity to put into practice the lessons taught to them by the speakers they heard on previous days.
The winners of the Challenge (pictured above) were Katherine Reiter of Emory University, Arvind Nagarajan of Yale University and Priya Khatri of Duke University. They wrote a plan for Emory University, one of our first year chapters.[singlepic=81,320,240,,center]
While many people pitched in to make the institute happen, some went above and beyond the call of duty. Stephanie Liu, Carlyn Cowen (pictured above) and Chloe Bacon, summer interns in the National Office, were the logisitical backbone of the Institute.[album=1,extend]
Additionally, we’d like to thank all of our speakers, sponsors and volunteers. We couldn’t have done it without you!
