Nourish’s Board of Directors announces that our Executive Director is stepping down in December.8/14/2019 Dear Friends of Nourish International,
After four wonderful years with Nourish, I recently shared my plans to step down as Executive Director at the end of the calendar year. I did not arrive at this decision lightly, as I care a great deal about this life-changing organization, the students we serve, our board, our alumni, and all of our partners. Most importantly, I care deeply about the work we do to empower and educate the next generation of leaders in service of thriving communities and a healthy planet. In my role as ED, I’ve harnessed my grit, tapped into my deepest passions, and centered my experience as a Nourish student and alumnus to maintain and transition the organization as its only employee. And now, I look forward to the next chapter in my life. My family has evolved and grown dramatically since I was chosen to lead Nourish more than two and a half years ago and my career goals have evolved in tandem. It has been my privilege to lead Nourish through an important period of transformation. We have a remarkable network of students and alumni and a dedicated board of directors; I am proud of what we have accomplished together. I will be working closely with the Executive Director Search Committee over the next few months to find a new ED and support that person in their transition. I hope that I will have an opportunity to thank you in person for your partnership and commitment to young leaders and community-based organizations. Please read on below for a message from our board of directors. With gratitude, JD Van Alstyne A message from Nourish’s Board of Directors It is with a mix of sadness and gratitude that the Board of Directors is sharing the news that JD is stepping down as our Executive Director. As you know, over the last two and a half years JD helped lead the process to create a reimagined Nourish. He has been a stalwart and unwavering “rock.” He spearheaded the evolution of our bold new strategy, the development of new programs at the cutting edge of leadership research, and multiple successful fundraising initiatives. JD started with Nourish as a fresh graduate from the University of Oregon four years ago and quickly rose from Program Associate to Ventures Coordinator to Executive Director. He has served in his current role for two and a half years. Now, as JD plans the next steps in his career, he is working side by side with our Board to ensure a smooth and seamless succession process. We anticipate hiring JD’s successor by mid-October and are fortunate to be in a financial position to support a healthy overlap period between JD and the new incoming ED to ensure proper training and handoff. We are searching for candidates who are passionate about leadership development, enjoy working with students and have energy and excitement for showing donors and funders the value of our work. The best way to support this process is by sharing our job posting with any candidates or groups you think may be a strong fit! Thanks for your ongoing support! Tommy Thekkekandam Nourish Board Chair
