A few months ago, we announced that JD Van Alstyne, our current ED, would be stepping down after several years of dedicated service to Nourish International and its student membership. After a thorough search and vetting process, it is with great excitement that the Board of Directors announces Tanesha Cameron-Cole will be joining Nourish as our next Executive Director! Tanesha obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Masters in Business Administration with a concentration in Strategic Management, both from Syracuse University. Throughout her career, she has focused on program development and delivery, from childhood education to college student mentorship. Notably, she served as the Director of School Based Programs for Coordinated Care Services of Syracuse, where she oversaw a staff of 90 executing two major programs with a combined budget of $6M. Most recently, Tanesha served as the Executive Director of the Rocky Mount Region of Communities in Schools of North Carolina, serving over 1200 students across 24 sites. Tanesha lives outside Raleigh, NC with her husband and three children. She is energetic, strategic, grounded, and generous. Tanesha is passionate about mentorship and advocacy, spending time outside of professional roles serving on the boards of two organizations focused on supporting underrepresented young men and women. The experience of getting to know Tanesha through the interview process was one of immediate connection and we are confident our students, alumni, volunteers, and other stakeholders will have the same experience. Tanesha herself will be reaching out to our community in the coming weeks as she begins her role as Nourish’s Executive Director. While we are sad to see JD move on to the next stage in his career, we also wish to celebrate all that he has accomplished within and for Nourish in four years of service. He started out as a Nourish College Chapter founder himself, while a Junior at the University of Oregon. Then, upon graduating, JD joined our national office as a Program Associate. He quickly advanced to Program Coordinator, then to Executive Director. Most notably, JD shepherded the organization through a deeply impactful reimagining process two years ago. JD has continued to be a strong force for the Nourish movement during this transitional phase, as he worked closely with our Search Committee to design and execute a very thorough candidate vetting and selection process. After considering nearly 100 applicants and multiple interview rounds, the Nourish Board selected Tanesha as the strongest of a field of very impressive candidates. We are fortunate to have JD’s services over the next eight weeks as he trains and transitions Tanesha into her new role at Nourish. We are so very excited to welcome Tanesha to the Nourish family and for all of the exciting growth she will bring to our movement. We are so very excited to welcome Tanesha to the Nourish family and for all of the exciting growth she will bring to our movement. Please feel free to reach out to her at tanesha@nourish.org and share words of welcome, any insights or thoughts you have about the future of Nourish or general Nourish Love. Nourish’s Board of Directors announces that our Executive Director is stepping down in December.8/14/2019 Dear Friends of Nourish International,
After four wonderful years with Nourish, I recently shared my plans to step down as Executive Director at the end of the calendar year. I did not arrive at this decision lightly, as I care a great deal about this life-changing organization, the students we serve, our board, our alumni, and all of our partners. Most importantly, I care deeply about the work we do to empower and educate the next generation of leaders in service of thriving communities and a healthy planet. In my role as ED, I’ve harnessed my grit, tapped into my deepest passions, and centered my experience as a Nourish student and alumnus to maintain and transition the organization as its only employee. And now, I look forward to the next chapter in my life. My family has evolved and grown dramatically since I was chosen to lead Nourish more than two and a half years ago and my career goals have evolved in tandem. It has been my privilege to lead Nourish through an important period of transformation. We have a remarkable network of students and alumni and a dedicated board of directors; I am proud of what we have accomplished together. I will be working closely with the Executive Director Search Committee over the next few months to find a new ED and support that person in their transition. I hope that I will have an opportunity to thank you in person for your partnership and commitment to young leaders and community-based organizations. Please read on below for a message from our board of directors. With gratitude, JD Van Alstyne A message from Nourish’s Board of Directors It is with a mix of sadness and gratitude that the Board of Directors is sharing the news that JD is stepping down as our Executive Director. As you know, over the last two and a half years JD helped lead the process to create a reimagined Nourish. He has been a stalwart and unwavering “rock.” He spearheaded the evolution of our bold new strategy, the development of new programs at the cutting edge of leadership research, and multiple successful fundraising initiatives. JD started with Nourish as a fresh graduate from the University of Oregon four years ago and quickly rose from Program Associate to Ventures Coordinator to Executive Director. He has served in his current role for two and a half years. Now, as JD plans the next steps in his career, he is working side by side with our Board to ensure a smooth and seamless succession process. We anticipate hiring JD’s successor by mid-October and are fortunate to be in a financial position to support a healthy overlap period between JD and the new incoming ED to ensure proper training and handoff. We are searching for candidates who are passionate about leadership development, enjoy working with students and have energy and excitement for showing donors and funders the value of our work. The best way to support this process is by sharing our job posting with any candidates or groups you think may be a strong fit! Thanks for your ongoing support!
